In recent weeks, we have continued our mapping inquiry by creating our own 2-D maps of our classroom, school, and homes. One student even brought in a map of his family’s upcoming road trip to California! Fantastique ! Through these activities, our students:
• represented familiar locations in a drawing or co-created map;
• used tools including pencils, ruler, and coloured pencils to be “cartographers” and “architects”;
• brainstormed features to be included on the map;
• included important elements of maps including a title, labels, and symbols.
