Oral Communication
Oral communication skills are developed no matter what language is spoken at home, as long as children are spoken to. The broader their experiences are with families and friends, the more connections they will have to assist them with oral language expression. Oral language skills are important components for the development of good reading and writing skills.

Phonemic awareness is a very important component of early literacy skills. It is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds-phonemes, which are the smallest parts of a word (smaller than syllables).
In order to become good readers, student need to understand how sounds are used to create words.
