Bonjour !
My name is Tosh (Élisabeth) Tipler and I am excited to provide your child with authentic learning experiences that will heighten their knowledge, excite their love of learning, as well as give them a solid foundation to start them on their educational path.
I have been teaching French as a Second Language since 2001. I am a graduate of the University of Waterloo (B.Sc. - Health Studies) and Nipissing University (B.Ed. & M.Ed.). My primary focus of research is Outdoor Experiential Learning and its Effects on Social and Emotional Well-being. In 2006, I opened a French early childhood education centre, Centre Éducatif Village d'Élisabeth, in Waterloo, Ontario. Through these experiences, along with being a mother of 2 beautiful young adults, I have learned how important it is to expose children to a variety of environments and activities that allow them to freely explore in creative and self-directed ways.
As a Kindergarten Specialist, I am very interested in a holistic approach to learning, combining various theories and practices such as: Forest Schools, Reggio Emilia, Democratic Education, Montessori, and Waldorf. Inquiry-based, child-centred learning is an important component of brain development in the early years and is what I primarily use in my classroom. Spending time researching new and creative ideas and activities that stimulate and deepen students’ interests and creativity is a great passion of mine and I am looking at adding more arts-based approaches to my practice.
I believe that learning needs to involve the whole child (head, hands, and heart). Children need to feel a sense of belonging and self-worth, therefore, I believe that education needs to be inclusive, relevant, and authentic. Using a holistic approach to teach the curriculum, allows for a balanced focus where all aspects of the child are nourished: intellectual, emotional, social, and physical. I believe that the inner beauty of a child is not measureable, but can be celebrated and cultivated through holistic curriculum teaching.
I believe that children are very caring, inquisitive, and capable little people, therefore I also focus on providing an environment that is safe and supportive but at the same time unrestricted and democratic. All children learn at their own pace and it is important that I excite my students and give them the opportunity to be in charge of their learning as they continue to develop into life long learners.
I am excited and thrilled to be working in partnership with your child, you, and Theresa McMillan!

Salut !
My name is Theresa McMillan and I am thrilled to begin another fantastic year at École F.A. Hamilton as the early childhood educator in your child’s Kindergarten class!
I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 and Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Education in 2002. I spent the early years of my career teaching grades six and seven in an isolated community in the Northwest Territories before returning to Guelph to raise two beautiful, active sons. In 2012, I entered Conestoga College’s Early Childhood Education Fast Track Program. Returning to school as a full-time student and attempting to balance classwork and the excitement of a busy family life was quite an experience! In recent years, I have developed and delivered programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children at local public schools, at a neighbourhood-based community centre, in a large licenced daycare centre, and at a small cooperative preschool in Guelph.
As a student, an educator, and a parent, I have witnessed that children are individuals who vary in temperament and personality, in strengths and needs, and in early experiences and family background. I recognize that each child has a place within his or her family, culture, and community, and I appreciate the role of parents as the first and most powerful influence on children’s early learning and development. I strive to be attentive to children's interests, accommodating of individual needs and abilities, and appreciative of early learning and care that celebrates diverse knowledge, skills, values, and cultures. I try to be intentional, thoughtful, and responsive, while always keeping the children at the centre of my program planning. What, specifically, are the children trying to understand? What developmental tasks are they practicing? What strategies are they employing? What materials or activities could I offer that would provoke curiosity and extend their inquiry and focused play? I believe early experiences are critical to the developing child, and Kindergarten programs must be of high quality. I am aware of the need to enhance my own learning in order to best support children and families, and I am committed to continuous personal and professional growth. Learning is a cooperative and communicative activity where children, teachers, and parents are invited to contribute in a sense of common purpose. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!
