It is so hard to believe that we only have 2 more days until December vacation. Please remember that Thursday is pyjama day, so please let your child wear their warm pj's to school.
Bonne nuit !
Wow! What a fun day! We started our morning on our new sleds. Merci M. Marquis ! It was so much fun and quite exhausting. Next we moved into making gingerbread dough and engaging in other various activities such as, building with blocks and Lego, card making, dress-up, and working with letters. Some of the children have been concentrating on the importance vowels play in words. Remove all the vowels in your name and what is your new name?

We had another fantastic day. Today's inside group learned about the importance of feeding non-migrating birds, watching popcorn kernels change to white fluffy popcorn, and how to use a needle and thread to make popcorn bird feeders. The outside group played tag, practiced printing letters in the snow, and watched how snow turns into water when it touches your fingers. "Why?" one student asked. "Because your fingers are warm and it melts the snow." responded another.
We had our first Math Centres activity with some very generous parent volunteers. Again, thank you for providing us with your time. We would certainly not be able to do these kinds of activities without you. For one hour the children (in groups of 5-6) rotated around math centres for 10 minutes of group math play. Each month we plan on setting up different types of centres with parents running one centre. We feel that is important in so many ways. Firstly, it provides parents the opportunity to feel part of the school community and interact with their child at school. Secondly, it teaches children how to work together and follow directions. Thirdly, children learn new games/skills that they use during free play. Lastly, it is just so fun! Stay tuned for next month's activity. Next week we will be making gingerbread cookies! MIAM ! Have a fantastic weekend! Reminders: Pottery-to-Go will be coming home next week (Monday & Tuesday). Please take a look in your child's backpack to reduce the changes of it getting broken. No school on Friday It is cold outside, so please ensure that the children are dressed warmly: warm & waterproof mittens; warm socks; extra socks and mittens; neck warmer or scarf; snow pants; warm winter coat. MERCI ! Wow! What a great day! We started out in the forest excited to see snow and animal tracks everywhere! Now to distinguish between squirrel and mouse tracks. I think we found some deer tracks too. We couldn't stay out too long, as it was very cold this morning. Please send extra socks and mittens, and a scarf too, so we can ensure that everyone stays warm.
The second group had fun in the forest too and dragged it an old tree that was discarded last year. They have used it in the past as part of a boat design, but this time decided that they really wanted to decorate this poor old, dried out red "evergreen". The children were so excited. Of the fun Madame and Madame have with each other! What will Madame allow the children to bring in next! We are truly a great team and do have fun working together and with your children. Thank you for supplying us with play dough. The children love this stuff and the faster we can rotate it the cleaner we can keep it. Merci ! Lego and block building never stops! There have been many elaborate space ships and houses been built every day. It is great to see the teamwork involved. We are so amazed with the reading and writing skills the children are displaying. Many children have chosen to read their stories to the classroom. Allowing children the opportunity to share their learning makes for an inclusive and child-owned classroom. We are becoming better and better spectators too! Bravo, nous sommes fière de nos amis ! Again, we are so proud with how well our children get along and play so nicely together. They are so creative and adventurous! They make it so easy to want to come to school. Our new friends are a great addition to the class. Animals help to teach so many skills. Merci Mme Thatcher for allowing us to keep these girls during the week. December 19th the kindergarten students will have a pyjama, popcorn, and movie time. They have worked so hard filling up our classroom bucket! Bravo ! Hard to believe that we are almost the middle of December. Items we are in need of: nuts and bolts, wood (2X4) scraps, tree trunks (logs) cut into discs, small logs, etc... If you have an extra raw fruit or vegetable to bring in to feed our guinea pigs, that would be great. Nothing too big, just any extra broccoli stems, green bean pieces, carrots, that may be leftover from preparing dinner. Have a great night! The snow has returned and so has our ability to see animal tracks throughout the forest! Last week after analyzing various animal tracks in books, on the iPad, and in the mud, we made our own animal footprints out of salt dough. We have also been noticing the different tracks as we read and practice story retell with a wintery story, The Mitten.
We have been working with small groups on letter printing, reading French sentence starters (Voici, C'est, Je vois, Il y a, Est-ce que), and drawing detailed pictures with creative sentences and stories. Bravo les amis ! Des cochons-d'indes ! We have 2 new furry friends that have come to visit our class for a while. The students talked about how we need to care for these little girls. It is important that they have water, food, exercise, and we need to play quietly when they are on the carpet so we do not scare them. Such a caring bunch of children. Il fait froid! Please remember to send warm clothing for your child. It is getting chilly out there. MERCI ! If you would like to assist with our Friday Fun Math activity (11am-12pm) this Friday, please send us an email. We will be sending home our Pottery to Go artwork. Please check for this item over the next couple of days. We wouldn't want them to get accidentally broken. Merci ! Reminder that the last day before our break is Thursday, December 19th. Therefore, no school on Friday, December 20th. Have a great afternoon! We would like to take this opportunity to welcome a new jk student to our class. He has attended 2 full days of classroom fun and fits in like a charm. He is quite the leader and has a very inquisitive mind. His fellow students have also been very supportive and welcoming. Wow, this is very heartwarming to see. Bienvenue !
Well of course our day started with a trip to the forest to see what we could find. The children were quite creative with the recyclable items today, creating: computers, robots, spaceships, and so much more. There were other children busy creating stories to share with their friends. We are so happy with the students' imagination as well as the cooperation displayed amongst our students. This makes for such a happy environment for everyone. Have an awesome night! Bonne nuit ! Bon soir !
The fun never ends! We have been making our way through the forested areas around FAH. We have encountered many clues that animals live nearby, especially when there is snow on the ground. The children have discovered many footprints in the snow. We wonder if they are those of rabbits, deer, dogs, or even maybe a dinosaur! Let's hope not the last one, but it is so much fun to use our imagination. Discovery Play is such an exciting time. Some of the students have been experimenting in the wet area making potions. Not only are they seeing the colour changes when mixing paint, they are noting that when a sponge is place in the water, the water level rises, the sponge changes colour, and it also absorbs some of the water. Thank you for sending in the Play dough! The children love this stuff and the more we get the quicker we can replace it. MERCI ! This week, FAH is having a book sale in the library from Monday-Wednesday. Please see note below for further details. The money raised from this sale helps to purchase more books for the library. Weather ups and downs. It is so hard to know how to dress in the morning. Thank you for sending warm clothing for the children as we are outside quite a bit. The forest is our outside classroom and the children do really enjoy this time. Please ask your child if they need warmer clothing for our outdoor adventures. We are going to try a new idea and we hope that you will like to partake. Once a month we would like to have an activity block, where we would invite parents to come in and help with centre-style activities-much like Scientists in the School. We would need about 5 parents to help out with these events. We are striving to improve the home-school learning experience. On Friday, December 13th, (11h00-12h15) we would like to start with a fun math activity time. If you are available to assist with this activity, please send us an email. The children enjoyed learning about Hanukkah and sharing a taste of latkes. Merci to the parent who volunteered her time to share with us. It was great to meet with you during our parent-teacher interviews. As we indicated, please feel free to contact us if you would like to further discuss any concerns you may have. Have a great night! |
