Wow, this month has flown by, but that doesn't mean that we haven't had a lot of fun learning! We started the month off reviewing and solidifying our learning about parts of the body and clothing that we wear when the weather becomes colder. And yes, the weather has become much colder and we practise many times a day dressing and undressing into and out of our pantalon de neige, manteau d'hiver, tuque, mitaines, foulard/écharpe, couvre-cou, and bottes. Thank you for sending in extra clothing to ensure your child stays warm and dry!
Both the JKs and SKs have been busy learning their French alphabet, letter sounds, and words through various games and books. We sent home a copy of one of the games, "J'ai A, qui a B?", that the children really enjoy playing. This games helps them to learn how to take turns, assist their friends when it is their turn and if they need help with the letter name. We can tell by how well they know their letters that they have been practising at home! Merci !
After a literacy game, the SK's have been concentrating on reading two new books a week. We are up to six books now and this week we will be reviewing these six books. They have been reading so well that they wanted to show off their reading skills to one of our grade one teachers, Mme Nibaruta. She was very impressed to see their ability to tract words with their finger, differentiate between "un and une", or to use the images to help them remember the words. Bravo les amis !!!!!!!
Literacy and numeracy concepts are further solidified through this reading program and gross motor gym activities (sous, sur, dans, devant, à côté de, en avant, en arrière, en haut, en bas; tête, épaules, genoux, pieds...; souliers, chemise, pantalon....). We also added another fun way to learn our letter with Alphabet Yoga. The children twist, turn, and extend their bodies to create various letters. We are even spelling our names using the students as the letters! Learning is so much more engaging when the activities are fun and truly involve the learners!
With our SK-Grade 3 science buddies, we have been learning about structures and stability. We have experimented with many materials to see which materials are better to use to create strong, steady structures, as well as how we can take materials that are not so strong (e.g., cards) and create a structure that is strong and can also carry a load. They have now extended this learning into the classroom, as they build elaborate card building and communities. Having different types of learning buddies within the school extends our learning so much and makes learning so much fun!
This Thursday, our class is organizing a short assembly with our Learning Buddies from M. Devenney's class. It is a mini presentation about friendship. Please dress your child in a blue shirt for this assembly. Merci !
Friday is a PD day, so no school!
Scholastic Book Orders Due by Thursday!
Valentine's Day is just around the corner! It would be fun for your child to come dress in red, pink, and/or white on Thursday, February 14th! Please have your child print "Mon ami" in the "To" area and their name in the "From" area. You can imagine 23 children trying to read and find the right Valentine's bag. MERCI !!!!!!!
We will be celebrating our 100th Day of School on February 11th. The week before, please have you child bring in a container/baggie with 100 objects (e.g., raisins, buttons, paper clips, etc...). It is so fun to see how 100 things take up different amounts of space.
Monday, February 18th - Family Day!
Have a wonderful day and keep warm!!!!!!
