We were both very impressed with how the children interacted so well with one another and the responsibility they took to take care of their belongings and the classroom. We did not have any misadventures nor any tears. It was an extremely happy day! We are also sure that the night custodian will think that we didn't have any children today! It was amazing how well we all worked together to tidy up after each activity. BRAVO !
We sent home a "sac de communication" that has a lot of information for you to read. Please read through this information carefully, as well as complete the forms and return them promptly. We love to be able to explore the nearby forest and the children have been asking to go already. We cannot venture off school property until we have received all of the forms from all of our students. Although our primary mode of communication is through email ([email protected]), please return you child's "sac de communication" on a daily basis. This communication bag is used mainly for office communication.
We are a play-based learning environment and little paper will be sent home. In order to see your child in full learning mode, we request that you return the Internet permission form. This way you and your family can witness all of the wonderful learning that your child has been engaged in.
We have begun our first class project. Over the course of the year, we will be creating class books that are authentic to our students and their learning. This month we will be creating a book about the students in our classroom. An envelope was sent home today with a note. Over the next couple of weeks your child is ask to bring this envelope back and forth to school. Inside this envelope we ask that you place photos of your child with their family or doing things that they love. Your child may draw small pictures and cut out pictures from magazines or flyers of activities that they enjoy doing, food that they love to eat, or places that they have travelled. They will work at the leisure, creating a page about themselves. The size of the page that they will be decorating is 11"X13".
This year will be cooking and baking at least once a month. Please inform us if your child has any dietary restrictions. We would also welcome any recipes that you may have. Tomorrow we plan on making healthy potato wedges with the children, using only potatoes, oil, salt. We also like to be very connected with our families and would welcome any cultural traditions/recipes that you would like to share.
In order to reduce the amount of garbage in our school, we would ask that lunches be as litter-free as possible. We would like to start a boomerang lunch program, which would mean that all packaging that your child brings to school would be returned home (i.e. granola bar wrapper, yogourt container, etc). This has been very successful for many schools and teaches the children about being environmentally conscious. As a side note, thank you for providing your children with such healthy lunches!
We are always in need of recyclable materials for our science and art projects. We are currently in need of used CD's, tin can (with no sharp edges), buttons, beads, old jeans, silk flowers, ribbons, and baby food jars. Merci !
We welcome the opportunity to speak with you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us via email ([email protected]) or through the contact page on this website. Please be aware that Mme McMillan and Mme Clews (Science Teacher) will be dismissing your children at the end of the day, but that Mme Tipler will be in the school. We believe that we are a team (you, your child, and the teachers) and we are very excited to be to working together this year!
Have a great night!
Mme Tipler and Mme McMillan
