Outdoor exploration is so much fun and the knowledge that the children gain is incredible! When it rains puddles form and the children enjoy all that the water brings. They create rivers and waterfalls and learn that the bigger their jump is the higher the water splashes, that when water is mixed with sand it creates mud, and worms can be found everywhere!
During our forest exploration, the children find many creatures and plants. We discuss the importance of never putting berries or plants found in the forest into our mouths and that these are food sources for the animals in the forest.
Not only are they developing their fine motor skills when discovering things with their hands, they are developing confidence in their body's ability to use big muscles to climb rocks and trees, and move logs and stones. It is quite fascinating to listen to their creative story telling and imaginary play!
The children become great friends with their peers as they show they what they have discovered or help them with a new challenge. At the park, I saw children helping their friends on the swing, open lunch containers, using words of encouragement, listening to their friends needs, and even picking up a forgotten lunch box. We are so happy with how nicely our children interact with one another. Bravo les amis !
After watching the leaves on the trees change colours, we talked about the colours we see in these leaves (brun, vert, jaune, orange, rouge). Using markers in these colours, we learned the sentence "J'ai brun!" as we coloured coffee filters and passed the markers around. Once we had a chance to use all of the colours, we sprayed the coffee filters with water and watched as they mixed together and started to look like autumn leaves.
Thank you for those of you who have handed in the trip form, the volunteer form, and the friendship list form. There were so many parents that were willing to volunteer and we are so thankful to all of you. Unfortunately, we can only take three parents with us and we have already contacted these parents. There will certainly be other opportunities for you to volunteer and again we thank you! Merci !!!
Please note that this trip was subsidized by a government grant ($6.55 was subtracted from this trip for each child).
Have a wonderful evening!
