It never ceases to amaze us, when we see all of the great work coming from our students!
Lately, we have been learning about life cycles of birds and seeds. As a continuation from the topic of seeds, we have been also been talking about seeds that we eat, that are part of a fruit or vegetable (e.g., raspberries, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc...), as well as foods that we eat that are actually seeds (e.g., nuts, peanut butter, chickpeas, hummus, kidney beans, sunflower seeds, some spices, cocoa, flour, coffee, etc...). We even tasted pure cocoa powder, so the children could see how we use the ground cocoa seeds to make the chocolate treats that we know. Next we talked about how we eat peas, then we planted some peas, noting the importance of soil, water, and sun to make them grow. Next week, we will be making nutritious snacks made with seeds (e.g., hummus, bread, bean quesadillas).
We had an exceptional time at The KW Museum. Thank you to our parent volunteers who attended the trip with us! We would not be able to experience these great opportunities without your support! Merci !!!!
As part of our literacy program, we continue to work on our monthly journal entries. It is easy to see their progress with the amount of detail that the children are incorporating in their illustrations. Bravo, les amis !!!! Furthermore, we have been working on story writing with our Learning Buddies in M. Devenny's class. They had to brainstorm with their buddy while they completed a storyboard, indicating the characters, location of the story, the beginning, middle and end, the problem, as well as the solution, before they began to write together. As an extension to this lesson, the SK's created their own stories. I was quite amazed at the amount of work they put into these stories. They are so excited to bring these stories home to read to you! Please note that in kindergarten, the amount of detail in their illustrations tells the majority of their story. Detailed drawings are important pre-writing skills. The objects in the drawings are the nouns, the shapes, colours and patterns are the adjectives, and the activities that are occurring are the verbs. Ask them to read their story to you to hear exactly what they are trying to convey!
Play is such an important component in child development. Through play children are building very important social and emotional skills. It is so lovely to see the amount of kind words, collaboration, and problem-solving that occurs in our classroom! We are so proud of them all!!!!!
Fergus est furieux ! This book is about a dragon that has a hard time regulating his emotions. Each time things do not go his way, he becomes very angry and spits out fire, destroying everything in his path. Through interactions with his friends, he learns various ways to calm himself down. We talked about ways we also calm ourselves down, when we are upset (e.g., count to 10, breath deeply, exercise, go to a quiet area, talk it out with someone, etc...).
DancEd has been a big success! The children have been thoroughly enjoying this activity and cannot wait to perform on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 11h25! Please ensure that they are wearing brown, yellow, orange, or animal print! Hope to see you there!
Have a wonderful day!
