This was a week packed with excitement and adventure! With the beautiful weather, it was very easy to stay outside for long periods of time and explore all of the signs of spring in the forested areas around our school.
One group has become very interested in fort building, animal role play, and finding bugs and other interesting things (e.g., a rabbit's leg)! The other group has enjoyed exploring different parks around the neighbourhood where they engage in Minecraft role play. They have also been taken up with noticing different birds and trees in our forest. By focusing in on each sense (sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste) we are able to notice and understand the world around us in a much deeper fashion.
The following are sentencing that we are using to describe what we notice:
Je remarque... (I notice...)
Je vois... (I see...)
J'entends... (I hear...)
Je touche... (I touch...)
Je sens... (I smell... or I feel...)
Je goûte... (I taste...)
The children have been putting their spatial sense to the test as they count squares and recreate many Minecraft pieces. Many teachers and students who pass by our hallway have been quite impressed with their skills! Bravo, les amis !!!
We ended the week/day with a Mother's Day celebration. The children were so excited to serve lemonade, coffee, and cake to their Mom/Grandma and share their space with you! With the items the children gathered during our morning nature walk, one of the students created centre pieces for each table. It was so wonderful to celebrate with you! A big thank you to all of the Moms and special women in our children's lives!
Have a lovely weekend and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Reminder:
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday (11th, 13th, 15th) - The kindergarten children will be selling snacks ($2.00) and juice ($1.00) as a way to fundraise for a kindergarten shed, which will be used to house our new outdoor play equipment. If you wish to send money with your child, please place in it their "sac de communication". We are excited to say that we are more than half way to our goal and now have close to $600.00!! YOUPI !!!
Tuesday, May 12 - Trip to East Side Mario's - They will be making and eating pizza, so one less snack is required in their lunch bags.
Sun hats, sun screen, and water. Please remember to apply sunscreen on your child before they leave in the morning, as we are not able to put it on your child. Water bottles are always the best solution for keeping our children hydrated. Since we are quite often in the forest, water bottles are much easier to manage and do not attract wasps and other creepy crawlers.
