We've been up to so much lately! Now that my computer is working again, I can post some of the great things we have been up to.
Hallowe'en was such fun! The children enjoyed preparing the classroom with their own art, parading through the school, cooking pancakes, and of course the dance, which we are so thankful for the parent volunteers who organized it! Merci !!!!
Rain or shine, we have been enjoying the lovely fall weather and the scientific exploration that it brings! Outdoor water play is so much fun and finding all of those wiggly worms was such a delight!
We have been focussing on number recognition, adding and subtracting numbers from one to ten, and subitizing through various game play.
The children have been excited that we finally found the key to the outside block bins! Building with blocks is another way that children develop many skills (math, language arts, science, social studies, social emotional, physical development, and art). Building up and out, along with incorporating various other objects within their blocks demonstrates their critical thinking and spatial awareness. See chart below.
We have been working on building a model community using various 3-D wooden shapes. The children are beginning to realize that many types of buildings (e.g., houses, apartment building, library, schools, malls, fire stations, hospitals, etc...) and spaces (e.g., parks, sport fields, forests, streets, airports) create cities. They have been carefully picking out pieces, deciding on what they will build, and then painting and glueing the 3D shapes together. We cannot wait to see the end results!
Thank you for sending in extra clothing for your child! We go outside in all types of weather, so rain boots and splash pants make our play that much more fun!
Please remember to label everything! With the colder weather coming we want to ensure that the mittens, hats, snowpants, coats, boots, and scarves get back to their rightful owners. We have 90 kindergarten students in one wing, so that is a lot of clothing (90 X 2 = 180 mittens/shoes/boots; 90 coats/hats/scarves)! Yikes!
During a quiet, relaxing time of day, please practice having your child independently put on their winter clothing (snowpants, coat, zipper, boots, mittens, scarf, hat - and in this order too please). Children love to demonstrate their independence and the more independent they are the quicker we can get everyone outside for more fun and learning! Merci !
The volunteer list is being created along with the friendship list. Thank you for your patience.
Progress reports will be sent home on November 16th. If you feel the need for an interview, you can schedule one using the school online system. Interview dates are November 23rd and 24th. We can certainly accommodate another day if neither of these ones work. If needed, please send an email and we will find a time that suits everyone ([email protected]).
Have a wonderful evening!
