(Well it looks as though on my photos were posted and Weebly had help back the actual blog. Now that I have gone back into the edit mode, I was able to retrieve and republish it. Please go back and read the information that had not been published. I apologize for this, Weebly has this one glitch. Hopefully, the New Year will bring better technology my way! LOL!)
Well we have been up to a lot of fun playing in the forest! We finally made it into the stream, up from the frog pond. Two weeks ago we had an amazing find! We found the remains of a fawn (rib cage, spine, skull, leg bones)! What amazing little scientists we have. The children used gentle hands while examining the bones and were also able to determine that the skull belonged to a predator by looking at the eye sockets, which are on the side, and the teeth that are used to eat plants and not meat (no incisors).
We learn math concepts in various ways throughout the day. The children like to be the weatherman and ask the class, "Quel temps fait-il ?" and graph the results. During calendar time, not only are we counting the numbers to find the date, but we learn how to create and repeat patterns, while also learning new French vocabulary (mitaine, tuque, flocon de neige, manteau).
In literacy, we continue to learn new French vocabulary as we explore the forest and also during classroom lesson time. Lately, we have been focussing on creating detailed pictures and adding text to describe the story that we drew. Then we look at the product together, talk about the great work we have done. Next the children tell me how they could improve their product and then they add what they think is needed. They are doing a wonderful job! Bravo, les amis !
Electives Day was a great success and the children had a lot of fun learning with various teachers at FAH! What a wonderful school we have!
Friday is an exciting and sad time! It is crazy sock and pj day! It is the last day before Winter Vacation! And sadly, it is Mme Townsend's last day as Mme McMillan's long term supply teacher. Mme Townsend has been a wonderful addition to our classroom and we wish her all the best on her new adventures! The children are preparing a little party for her to thank her for everything that she has done! She will be greatly missed!!!!!
Have a wonderful week and hopefully no more computer glitches!
