After we released the butterflies, we read, La petite tortue, and the children discussed whether or not it is a good idea to keep wildlife in captivity. They also came up with various endings to the story and demonstrated this through paintings. We are so proud of how far they have come along with their critical thinking and artistic skills.
We continue to compare fiction and non-fiction books. Last week we read, Les drôles de tête (Funny Faces), a non-fiction book that gave us step by step planting instructions. Some of the children pointed out that plants have a life cycle similar to frogs and butterflies. With their book buddies, the children created their very own "Funny Face" planter. This week they are watching as the hair (grass) grows on their heads. We also planted rosemary and pineapple mint.
The children further developed their math skills as they played games, completed puzzles, and used symmetry in their paintings.
