Report cards were sent home yesterday! Please sign one copy of the report card and return it in the envelope provided. We use these envelopes again in June! Merci ! If you have any questions or concerns please indicate on the report that you wish to speak with us or send us an email. We are so proud of all of the work that your child has been involved in. We truly do have a wonderful group of children who are always so eager to take on new experiences!
We have been very busy this week with outdoor play, snowshoeing, tobogganing, drilling and hammering, literacy learning, discovery play, and learning about Australian animals.
At the beginning of the week both groups had the opportunity to try out snowshoeing and hiked around in the conservation area. It was hard work at times, but they had so much fun! During another forest walk, we came across an ice surface near the Splash Pad Park. It was wonderful to see the children pretend to be skaters, with twirls, long strides, and stops. We discussed the importance of ice safety and how important it is to make sure an adult has deemed iced-over water surfaces safe to be on.
Our students have been practicing their carpentry skills! With safety goggles and gloves, they have been learning how to hammer in nails, sand pieces of wood, and use two difference kinds of manual drills. It is great to see the collaboration used to attain their goals!
Electric engineers in our group? Some of the children have been interested in creating circuits to make a propeller spin up, spin down, turn on a light, make a doorbell buzz, or a combination of two or more.
Since Mme McMillan is moving to Australia in April, to spend time with her family on an exchange, the children decided that they would like to learn more about this far away country. We have only just picked out which animal we would like to research; however, we will be sending home some questions that we would like you to research and answer with your child. Next, they will work with their learning buddies, doing more research and then they will create a poster together using all of the information that they have found. This a great way for our little people and our big kids to learn together on a collaborative project!
Literacy skills are developed in so many different ways. Above you will find some children using other resources in the classroom, such as crayons, to figure out how to spell a word.
Have a wonderful Family Day Weekend!
