Mme Thatcher (Character Education and Health teacher) has been engaging the children with activities about healthy and unhealthy (or sometimes) eating. We have noticed that they are sorting their food into the 4 food groups and the "sometimes" foods. The children seem to be really understanding these concepts and we can see by their lunches that they have been provided with many nutritious snacks and meals (hummus/cheese with crackers and vegetables, fruit, yogourt, whole wheat wraps and sandwiches, sushi, etc...). Miam ! I often ask them if their parents could make my lunch too! With all of the candy the children will receive trick or treating, please try to send no more than 1 big treat (chips or chocolate bar) or a couple small treats (rockets, kisses). We try to ensure that your child is eating their nutritious foods first and this might be difficult if their choices are too tempting with sweets and salty treats. During nutrition breaks there is only one adult supervisor in the room, so this helps her ensure when healthy foods are the main meal.
Reminders:
Hallowe'en - The children can dress up in a costume for the entire day. Please ensure that they are comfortable and have a change of clothing, if they wish to change. We will have a Kindergarten Parade at 9h15, where we will walk around the school. Our class with be dancing from 9h45-10h20 in the gym.
Lost & Found Table - is located in the front hall. It is full of clothing, so if you are missing items, please come by and have a look.
Pottery-to-Go - is coming November 4th. This is a local company and artist who will teach the children about pottery and painting techniques. Please send in $8.00 for this activity. The children will each create a painted pottery piece to bring home. We are in need of volunteers to help out with this activity (10h50-12h20).
Scientists in the School - is coming November 15th in the morning (8h45-11h30). If you are available to assist with this activity, please let us know, as we will need a few volunteers to help us out with these activities too. Thank you to school council for paying for this activity. MERCI !
Volunteering - If you have a special family celebration that you wish to share with the class, please let us know. We are always interested in learning other family's traditions.
