The new year has started off so well in our class! The children are learning about space and they are quite excited about the topic. I'm really impressed by how quickly the children have learned to distinguish between the different planets. Some comments I've heard include "Uranus is the lazy planet because it's tipped over on it's side," "There's a storm on Jupiter so that's why there's a red spot," "The moon is made of rocks and dust," and "That's the stinky planet" in reference to Venus. We are also discussing how some planets are closer and further from the sun and how that distance affects the temperature on the planet. The children have made some stunning artwork to demonstrate their knowledge of the planets and many children are building 3D models of rocket ships, control centres inside rocket ships, and aliens.
