During snack and lunch times, it has been wonderful watching students analyze the contents of their lunch bags and compare notes on how many foods from each group they have already eaten. We often hear them say, “I had a banana for breakfast and now I’m eating an apple. I still have carrots and cucumber for my lunch. I’ll probably have another vegetable at supper, so I’m on track to eat my five fruits and vegetables today!”
While looking at le Guide alimentaire canadien independently or with a partner, our students:
• searched for information;
• sorted and classified foods;
• collected data from a chart; and
• investigated the benefits of nutritious foods for our bodies and brains.
Bravo !
