The children were very excited today to make their Friendship/Community Soup! We discussed the importance of ensuring that our working surfaces, cooking tools, food, and hands should always be clean in order to keep our bodies healthy. We talked about how important it is to eat vegetables of various colours because they provide us with different vitamins and minerals (e.g., orange, vert, jaune, blanc, rouge). Saftey is so important when working in the kitchen! All of the children learned how to properly use a kitchen knife when cutting hard foods like potatoes and carrots and softer vegetables like tomatoes. We added fresh herbs from our classroom plants too! Our most important ingredient was love! We talked about the importance of sharing tasks and talking kindly with our friends, therefore, the children decided that our soup should be called, Love Soup (Soupe d'amour)!
When adding ingredients together for our bread, the children learned the different sizes in the measuring instruments and looked carefully for 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, and 1. It was so nice to smell our bread baking and soup cooking throughout the day and it was a great treat to end our day. They loved the soup so much that they were asking for more and more! We will definitely make soup again soon! Bravo les amis !!! Thank you for providing an ingredient for your child to share, this made them really happy to see how their food contributed to make a delicious Friendship/Community soup!
Have a wonderful afternoon!
