We have been quite active despite the weather and have been lucky enough to get outside and miss the rain! The children continue to make many discoveries and have noticed more changes in nature. We have our research cut out for us as we discover new plants and critters each day!
In literacy and social, emotional devleopment, we have been exploring emotions through the arts. By simply showing a photo to the children, they are able to look at all aspects of the scene as well as the actions and facial expressions of the characters. This is a great way to teach children about empathy and compassion. I chose a page from the Three Little Pigs and we discussed everything that we noticed about this particular illustrations. The children decided that it was set in either late spring or summer, based on the flowers growing and the green leaves on the trees. They noticed that the pig building the house out of brick looked quite frustrated as the other two little pigs play and did not help him at all. They discussed what words the frustrated pig could use to let the two others know that he needed help. What compassionate children we have in our classroom! We then worked in teams to create the tallest structure using tongue depressors and mini cubes. It is not always easy to understand the concept of teamwork at this age, but they did do a great job trying!
We are planning a Mother's Day tea. We would like to invite the Mothers or a special female friend to the class on Monday, May 15th at 14h00 for a mini celebration!
Have a wonderful night!
