Each student took a turn digging a hole, placing an acorn, spreading soil or mulch, or watering our trees. We expect that our acorns will germinate quickly, and we hope to see sprouts soon. Green Legacy will return to collect our seedlings before the end of the school year. They will continue to grow in the Green Legacy nursery before eventually being planted in their permanent locations. Red Oaks can live for more than 300 years. Our trees are a gift that will be enjoyed by many future generations!
Last week, Green Legacy staff visited our school and taught us about the important role trees play in supporting wildlife habitats, in improving air, soil, and water quality, and in providing our community with beauty, shade, and a natural windbreak. She left us Red Oak planting kits so that we can take part in this easy but effective way to help the environment.
