Although it has been quite cold outside, this has not stopped our adventurous bunch! We have continued to venture outside, even if just for 20 minutes to get some exercise, fresh air, and a sense of adventure. Thank you for dressing your child warmly and sending extra socks and mittens! Last week a small group of children went on a trek and found something very interesting. They found the backbone of a fawn, along with its lower jaw.
We are wrapping up our outer space and are off to the Kitchener Children's Museum on Wednesday to learn some more. This trip will be all day, so please ensure that your child is on time, has comfortable clothing, and has a lunch that is easy to eat with little garbage. Merci !
We received some photos from Léo le lion and we can see that he is very close to Earth. We created and sent him various maps to ensure he makes back to school safe and sound. We thank all of the parents who were able to come to our Outer Space Open House!
From our space research, the children have become very interested in viewing the world from above. They became quite fascinated with photos in a book, that one of the children brought in, which was created Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. Following the children's lead we are now learning about viewing the world, our city, our neighbourhood, and our school with maps.
The children have also become interested in cooking, as well as listening and moving to various forms of music. So with this in mind, we will be learning about food, how to cook and bake, as well as music from around the world. We love to get out the rhythm sticks and create our own music. So that is just what we did after we listened to Stomp. We also "busted a move" on the "tapis" as we watched and followed some dance moves on the Internet.
Last week, one family shared some parts of their Jewish holiday, Purim. Purim is a celebration of freedom from Haman, a mean man, in the days of Queen Esther of Persia. We made shakers and used them during the play that was presented. At the end, they made Haman's Ear paper cookies. We would welcome anyone interested in coming into class to share they traditions. Furthermore, we intend to have a celebration at the beginning of April, where we will invited you to come in for a multi-cultural potluck.
It was great to see all of our JK families during the parent-teacher interviews. Please remember that we are always very willing to meet with you and discuss any concerns. Again, we are so happy to work with such a great group of children and parents!
Have a great night!
