We hope that everyone had a wonderful and restful holiday and that 2015 will bring you a lot of joy and opportunities. We are back into our routines and the children have been excited to share they holiday stories. We are also excited to have a new SK student in our classroom and are very proud of how our students have made her feel so welcome. Bienvenue !
Thank you for dressing your children in layers and in warm winter clothing. The extra mittens and socks have come in handy. It has been helpful to have them fully dressed when they arrive to school so they are ready to play outside. Merci !
The children have been very interested and excited to learn about outer space, so we have begun looking through many books and talking about what exactly they would like to further explore. Here are some of the topics what they came up with: telescopes, black holes, gravity, asteroids, comets, craters, the moon, spaceships, and astronauts. We have also discovered that some of our friends are already experts in the field of astronomy and we will be turning to them for information and clarification.
To assist with our learning would we greatly appreciate if you would be able to send in the following types of recyclable items: large and small boxes, tin cans, wrapping paper and paper towel rolls, buttons, ribbons, baby food jars, and small, medium, and large water and pop bottles. With these items will be building things such as, spaceships, spacesuits, jetpacks, and telescopes.
On January 13th we will have a scientist from Scientists in the School come into our classroom to discuss many types of scientists as well as provide centres that the children can explore. If you are at all able to volunteer for this activity (8h30 - 12h00), please send us an email. You would be responsible for running a small group activity that will be explained to you by our scientist. We are very grateful to school council for providing the funds for this event. UN GROS MERCI !
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank one of our mothers (Tara) for painting our classroom door. She has transformed it from a dull grey to a beautiful and animated jungle scene. Thank you so much for your time and talent! MERCI !
Thank you to Lia and her father for sharing some Hanukah traditions with us after our mini-concert. Thank you also to Mariam and her father for sharing Ethiopian Christmas traditions with us today. We continue to welcome all of our students and their families to share celebrations and traditions with us. The more we share with one another the closer we become. Thank you too to the parents who have been volunteering their time to make play dough, provide art materials, and who volunteer their time in the classroom. Finally, thank you so much for being such welcoming and supportive parents. We are truly grateful for being part of your child's educational journey.
Have a wonderful night and keep warm!
