In the Kindergarten program, visual arts provide a vehicle through which children can explore and express their interpretations of the world. We try to embed these artistic experiences in meaningful contexts, and we see the children become deeply involved in the creative process. Bravo, les amis !
After our forest walks, we typically return to school with a collection of beautiful fall leaves of various varieties and colours. This week, the children worked together to arrange the leaves from the palest shade of yellow to the deepest shade of burgundy. Using only yellow, red, and black paint, we attempted to create the spectrum of colours of our leaves. The children experimented with blending paints, talked amongst themselves, and made adjustments. They had great conversations about how to create orange with yellow and red, and about what proportion of each colour would be needed to create the desired shade.
