During our outdoor play on Friday morning, the children found a small apple in the school yard. In the Circle Time that followed, the children passed around the apple and examined it using their five senses. They posed many interesting and thought-provoking questions: Is it a real apple? Could we eat it? How would it taste? What other creatures might like to eat an apple? How did it get on our playground when we don’t have any apple trees nearby?
We would like to be guided by the children’s curiosity and investigate apples further. Families are invited to send an apple to school with their children. Hopefully we will receive an assortment of varieties, colours, shapes, and sizes. In the coming days, we will continue to examine, compare, and discuss. Perhaps at the end of our inquiry, our class can prepare a tasty apple snack!
